It was built close to the railway line as many of the children came by train. The school badge adopts part of its coat of arms from the City of Nottingham in Yorkshire. In the 1980's two women, Miss Ward and Miss Evans, started a girls school, St Winifred's situated on the South Coast. This later moved to Nottingham Road, establishing itself in the old doctor's residence, now King's School. It continued to function until the early 1920's when it closed down and was replaced by a boys Prep School founded in 1922 by Sidney Robert Edminson. He named King's School after his old College in Cambridge. The doctor is known to visit on the 14th of August each year. Once Clifton had been started in Durban and by 1942, it opened a branch at Nottingham Road. Clifton took over Spring Grove (the former home of Colonel Greene). James Fran, a young man who could read and write, was entrusted with a task of imparting his knowledge to four Indian children, resulting in the Indian School of Nottingham Road. The school began under an oak tree next to the railway line on 17 May 1937, close to the present school site. Classes ranged from Class 1 to Standard V1. The pupils were examined externally and produced excellent results. From a small institution the Nottingham Road Indian School has produced teachers, doctors, lawyers, bank managers and a number of talented sportsmen. Midlands Community College was founded bywell known local resident Pauline Greene in 1980, in the heat of the apartheidera. This college was one of the first multi racial college's of its kind in the country and established to educate local farm workers and domestics. Michaelhouse School, the Anglican Diocesan College of Natal, was founded in 1896 and is an internationally renowned boarding school for senior boys. Situated on a secure estate in the beautiful Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the school has a fully residential staff which facilitates a high level of pastoral care and interaction with the pupils. The distinctive architecture of inter-linked quadrangles inspires a sense of belonging and unity where friendships are forged for life.
